Children’s Ministry

Vacation Bible School

At Trinity, Vacation Bible School is not just for kids. VBS is an all church event. Decorating workdays begin weekly in the spring and continue up until VBS starts.

Adults serve as station leaders and helpers, youth serve as crew leaders and the Praise Band provides the music.

The entire church comes together to create an amazing Vacation Bible School Experience for the children of the church and the community. Check out our Facebook page

Church School

*** CHURCH SCHOOL WAS SUSPENDED DUE TO COVID. OUR HOPE IT TO RESTART CHURCH SCHOOL IN THE FALL OF 2022. THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE. ***

“Good News Gathering” is every Thursday throughout the school year from 7:00 to 7:45. Potty trained preschool children through 7th graders are invited to attend.

Lessons are hands on and interactive. Usually there is a snack and often the children make a craft.  Bible lessons are taught as a part of the curriculum.  Karen Wuestenfeld coordinates Good News Gathering.

Confirmation Instruction

Confirmation is a two year program at Trinity. 7th graders are asked to attend worship and youth group events. 8th graders meet weekly with the pastor for an hour and also meet with a mentor.

Lessons with the pastor include: an overview of the Bible, church history including the reformation and Trinity’s history, instruction on the Rites and Sacraments of the church.

Confirmands write a statement of faith that is read in worship and our confirmands receive the Rite of Confirmation on Pentecost.

Adult Faith Information

Thursday Bible Study

The Pastor leads a Bible Study every Thursday morning from 9:00 to 11:00.

The group chooses the book of the Bible that is studied. Questions and discussion are encouraged. Emphasis is on current Biblical scholarship and applying the scriptures to everyday living.

The morning ends with prayer requests and a time of prayer. All are welcome.

Weeknight Bible Study

Seasonally Trinity offers a Bible Study in the evening for those who are unable to come to the morning Bible Study. Generally classes are an hour long and are led by the pastor.

Unlike the Thursday group which is ongoing evening Bible studies are broken down into four to six week sessions on the same book.

Special Opportunities

On occasion Trinity offers book Studies and mini retreats for members and guests explore to their faith.

Grief Support Group

GriefShare is a new ministry in partnership with Good Samaritan Home. This ministry is a support group for anyone who has experienced the death of a loved one. GriefShare is part of a network of more than 12,000 churches worldwide empowering congregations to offer grief support groups. The program is non-denominational and offers Biblical concepts for healing from grief.

GriefShare will meet weekly on Wednesdays this summer from 6:00 -8:00 p.m. for thirteen weeks.

Each session will include a video seminar, small group discussion and support, and journaling and reflection utilizing a workbook. Peggy Poteet, trained “GriefShare Alumni,” will facilitate the group. Interested friends living at Good Samaritan Home cottages are invited to attend as are members of the public. Brochures are available in the church office.

Youth Group

The Trinity Youth group is for 7th through 12th graders.  The group meets approximately twice a month, usually on Sunday nights. The pastor and a group of dedicated volunteers provide leadership for this group.

The youth group meetings strive to strike a balance between, fun events, spiritual growth meetings and community service events.  The group also fundraises for their annual summer mission trip.

Each summer the group travels to a major city to do mission work for four to five days.  Work has included:  helping in soup kitchens, homeless shelters, building houses for Habitat for Humanity, assisting charities and non-profit organizations with maintenance and upkeep.  Mission Trips are life changing experiences.

Fellowship Groups

Fireside is an organization of retired members that meets monthly for fellowship, devotional activities and often a meal.

Food Faith and Fellowship is a group that goes out to eat together after the 10:30 service. Their focus is enjoying one another and the group is always looking for new people to join them.

The Believer’s Group is a group of people who are excited about Trinity and are committed to increasing the excitement, enthusiasm and vitality at Trinity. The Believer’s group sponsors a cookout in the fall, the church decorating party for Christmas, movie nights in the sanctuary and activities that increase ministry and bring people together.

Funeral Luncheons In order to minister to grieving families and offer a way to fellowship with family members and friends, Trinity provides a luncheon/social event following funerals. This eases the burden of families at the time of death.

Community Life

SPECIAL EVENTS

Trinity offers several specials events throughout the year. Each December we have a service of Lessons and Carols; a candlelight event that features holiday music provided by all our musical groups. We have hosted concerts in the past, have an annual craft show and are always looking for special event opportunities.

COMMUNITY SERVICE AND OUTREACH

Unmet Needs Committee Trinity is an active partner in the Quincy Area Partnership for Unmet needs. This coalition of churches and social service agencies meet regularly to problem solve community issues and help those falling through the social safety net. The pastor serves as the co-chair of this organization.

Food collection Trinity has a continuous food drive, collecting food for three local food pantries: Salvation Army, Quanada, and Catholic Charities. There are grocery carts at church where members place food item. These items are stored and distributed to a partner food pantry monthly. At Thanksgiving we have a large food in-gathering on the Sunday before Thanksgiving and collect more than 1000 food items for the Salvation Army’s Fall Harvest.

Crop Walk Each October Trinity participates in the area Crop Walk. Members collect donations to fight world hunger. A portion of the money collected stays in Adams county and the remainder is sent to help fund the hunger relief efforts of Church World Service.
Special Offerings Trinity participates in the four “All-Church Offerings of the United Church of Christ” including Neighbors in Need and One Great Hour of Sharing. In addition to these offerings we respond to disaster relief appeal and other special projects as they become available.
